Act on the Regulation of Radioisotopes, etc. and its relevant Ordinances

The Act on the Regulation of Radioisotopes, etc. was enacted in accordance with the principles of the Atomic Energy Basic Act (Act No. 186 of 1955). This Act regulates the use, sale, lease, disposal, and other handling of radioisotopes; the use of radiation generators; and the disposal of objects contaminated by radioisotopes or radiation emitted from radiation generators. Its purpose is to prevent radiation hazards arising from these activities, ensure the security of specified radioisotopes, and protect public safety.

In addition to this Act, the regulation of radioactive materials is also governed by other laws, including the Act on the Regulation of Nuclear Source Material, Nuclear Fuel Material and Reactors, the Medical Care Act, the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, and the Veterinary Practice Act.
